Citizen of the Republic of Armenia Samvel Erik Sahakyan was injured in the explosion that rocked the subway in Minsk, Belarus, at the height of rush hour yesterday evening.
“The victim is in the Ear-Nose-Throat [ENT or Otolaryngology] division of the hospital; he has problems with his hearing. His life is not in danger,” RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs press secretary Tigran Balayan told Novosti-Armenia.
The toll from the blast in the Minsk subway yesterday rose to 12, with about 149 wounded, after an explosive device went off at 5:55 pm during the evening rush hour at the capital’s busiest metro station, Oktyabrskaya, which is near the presidential residence, the Belarusian KGB said in a statement published on its website today, reports Bloomberg Businessweek.
The country’s Prosecutor General’s Office declared the blast “an act of terrorism” and began a criminal investigation, Belarusian state television reported. Lukashenko ordered security tightened “to the uttermost” and said the blast may have been orchestrated from abroad, according to a transcript of an emergency government meeting published on the president’s website late yesterday.
