It’s obvious that there’s an agreement between the opposition and the Sargsyan administration and we shouldn’t look for serious consequences of geopolitical games behind it, said member of the initiative group of the Sardarapat Movement Jirair Sefilian at a press conference in Yerevan today.
According to him, for Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to release his “hostages” (referring to the imprisoned oppositionists), he has forced something on Armenian National Congress (HAK) leader Levon Ter-Petrossian.
“The chief tyrant [i.e. Sargsyan] does everything to ensure a shock-free environment in Armenia till the 2012 presidential elections; that is, till his re-election,” he said.
In Sefilian’s opinion, Sargsyan’s policy is aimed at reducing the number of opposition supporters. “We’ll see how Levon Ter-Petrossian’s people’s army will dwindle by the end of May.”
“That’s what Serzh Sargsyan needs, to neutralize the protesting masses for whom the opposition is gradually becoming an eyesore,” Sefilian concluded.
