The Armenian National Assembly today approved an amendment to the law on military service, according to which deferment is provided to young men who have not yet graduated from their studies. Note, Armenia requires men to serve in the country’s armed forces for two years once they turn 18. With this new law, 18-year-olds will be able to defer their military service till after completing their studies.
The law was changed to reflect amendments to Armenia’s educational system which increased basic education from 10 to 12 years, and which saw young men turn 18, still in high school, and called to mandatory military service though not yet having graduated.
