It would be right for Armenia to remove its signature from the Armenia-Turkey Protocols, since it only promotes Turkey’s interests and Turkey is able to use these protocols, today said Director of the International Secretariat (Central Hai Dat office) of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) Bureau in Yerevan Giro Manoyan for the umpteenth time.
Armenia has to clarify its position, he said. “There have been enough statements at the presidential level, and it’s necessary that they reach some sort of conclusion, and that conclusion has to be withdrawing the signatures.”
Asked by the press how Turkey gains from the protocols, Manoyan highlighted a few points from the protocols which do not stem from Armenia’s interests and which the US interprets the same way as Turkey does.
“One is the issue of creating a sub-committee to carry out research on a historical level that the US, the UK and Sweden interpret the way Turkey does, saying that this sub-committee will discuss the Armenian Genocide issue — they ignore Armenia’s viewpoint and interpretations.
“Second, is the issue of the border: the Armenian president’s commentary was ignored, which became expressed on the day of the signing of the protocols,” he said.
The third point, according to Manoyan, is the reference to the precondition of settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
