Opposition members imprisoned in connection with the 2008 post-election unrest might be released by May 31, reports local daily 168 Zham (“168 Hours”).
“National Assembly Chair Hovik Abrahamyan made such a statement yesterday after the joint press conference in parliament with European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek. Abrahamyan considered it possible that an amnesty might be announced in the future. ‘But this is my personal opinion,’ [said] Abrahamyan, indemnifying himself in any case and adding, ‘It’s being discussed at the presidential residence… As for what scope it will be, who will be on the list, I don’t know… In my opinion, there will be an amnesty perhaps, which will have to come to the National Assembly. Let’s not rush. It’ll be clear in a week. The important [thing], that it will have a positive outcome’,” reports 168 Zham.
