Kocharyan Faces Possible 10 Years of Imprisonment in Russia

On May 24, the District Court of Tula in Russia will consider the criminal case against Armenian national Arshak Kocharyan.

Press secretary of the regional administration of the Judicial Department Olga Dyachuk told Interfax news agency that, according to the investigation, on Feb. 26, Kocharyan, 26, in response to instructions by a traffic cop to stop the VAZ-2107 car he was driving attempted to run over the officer who was forced to jump on the hood of the car. Kocharyan then accelerated and drove with the officer on his car for a few blocks in an attempt to lose him till he was apprehended by other police officers.

A criminal case was instituted under charges of “application of force that endangers the life and health of a representative of the authorities” that, if convicted, could lead to 10 years of imprisonment.
