Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan closely follows and studies reports on Armenia prepared by various international agencies, but he prefers to refrain from making assessments. He said so himself during the discussion period at today’s segment of the Civilitas Foundation series “One Hundred Questions, One Hundred Answers.”
At the same time, however, he advised the public to take such reports seriously.
Andreasyan today also touched upon Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s proposal to parliament to consider a general amnesty on occasion of the 20th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia this year.
“I assess this process quite positively; I hope that those imprisoned after the events of 2008 will soon be free,” he said, referring to opposition members imprisoned in the wake of mass unrest following a disputed presidential election in Feb. 2008.
