Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan is convinced that with the amended legislation, his office will be more involved in the electoral process.
Recall that, with 76 in favor and 12 opposed, a new Electoral Code was approved at the second reading in the National Assembly today.
Responding to a question at today’s segment of the Civilitas Foundation series “One Hundred Questions, One Hundred Answers” on what function the Ombudsman sees for himself in the upcoming elections, Andreasyan said:
“The Human Rights Defender’s Office will be able to propose 3 candidates to the Central Electoral Commission, which already provides for a wide opportunity for our office to more actively participate and defend the rights of citizens.”
