Hraparak Predicts Who Will be Released Under Sargsyan’s Proposed Amnesty

Armenia’s parliament today will discuss Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s May 20 proposal for general amnesty. Local daily Hraparak, basing its predictions on its sources, forecasts who will be released from prison under the new amnesty.

“Political prisoners Nikol Pashinyan and Sasun Mikaelyan will be released from prison through the amnesty, since they have served a third of their term. An amnesty is also planned for the other political prisoners. We managed to find out that released under the amnesty will be those who’ve been imprisoned for less than 3 years, all women who have children under 3 years of age, pregnant women and minors sentenced to up to 5 years’ imprisonment. Also included under the amnesty are participants of the Patriotic and Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh] War, as well as those sentenced to up to 10 years of prison who have served a third of their sentence and are under certain restrictions. This refers to those cases where the prisoner has committed no crime in prison,” reports the daily.
