A non-partisan unofficial electoral list “with national mentality, a pure past and through the people’s vote” has been established and published on a closed group in Facebook.
A Facebook user by the name of Armen describes the process of electing candidates. “Any citizen of the Republic of Armenia (including Artsakh [the de-facto Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh]) proposes names of candidates and creates an electoral list; for example, comprised of 500 people. Voting takes place to isolate 20 people out of this 500, create the list and submit to the [upcoming] elections.”
According to the group description, this initiative is led by youth who have neither political interests nor financial gain and who cannot be on the electoral list.
There are currently 60 candidates on the list, including former foreign minister of Armenia Alexander Arzumanyan; MP Viktor Dallakyan; ASALA (Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia) member, economist Alec Yenigomushian; singer Artur Meschyan; VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian; Armenia’s former ambassador to Canada Ara Papyan; former vice parliamentary chair of Armenia Karapet Rubinyan; writer Vahram Sahakyan; member of the Sardarapat civic movement Jirair Sefilian and others.
