Could Nubarashen Prisoner’s Death Have Been Avoided? Chorrord Inqnishkhanutyun

Gagik Safaryan, 53, who was serving his sentence in Nubarashen penitentiary, died yesterday, reports local daily Chorrord Inqnishkhanutyun (“Fourth Self-Authority”). The paper also published an account of the incident by one of the Nubarashen prison staff whose name was not published.

“Emergency medical services almost don’t respond to calls here. Calling a doctor becomes a real tale. Until they’re able to come, the thing has passed. Even when they come, they only do one thing: kill the pain. And for that you have to convince him for a long time that the man is really not feeling well. The man who died wasn’t feeling well since yesterday, until they realized that he really isn’t doing well, until they came and took him away, he died,” said the employee, reports Chorrord Inqnishkhanutyun.
