60 in Favor, 7 Against: New YSU Rector Elected

Corresponding Member of RA National Academy of Sciences, professor Aram Simonyan, the only candidate for the position of rector at the Yerevan State University (YSU), was elected at a YSU board meeting today, chaired by YSU board chair, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, according to a presidential press release issued today.

With 60 in favor, 7 against and 2 invalid ballots, Simonyan was elected for a five-year period.

“The expectation of all of us is great. We want to see a high-class Armenian state university. This is our wish, and I, on my behalf, and the Government [of Armenia], on its behalf, are confident that all members of the board will do everything so that we reach this goal,” said Sargsyan, after congratulating Simonyan.
