Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan paid a visit to the US Embassy in Armenia today to congratulate staff on the 235th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, according to a statement issued by the Armenian president’s office.
In addressing embassy staff, Sargsyan said US Independence Day has had and still has great significance not only for the US, but for all those peoples, including the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, since, according to the Armenian president, there is no nation that does not wish for freedom and independence.
Sargsyan also sent a message to US President Barack Obama in which he congratulated Obama on the occasion, as well as thanking him and his administration for their “consistent constructive efforts toward the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
“Armenia attaches special importance to the ongoing close cooperation with the United States and warm partnership relations, progressive development of our bilateral relations, further strengthening and deepening of friendship between our people and our countries. I am hopeful that together we will be able to create new opportunities for cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, elevating that cooperation to a qualitatively new level,” reads the message in part.
