Armenia Recognizes the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan

The Republic of Armenia recognizes the Republic of South Sudan as an independent state, reads a statement issued Saturday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian.

“The declaration of independent statehood in South Sudan is a realization of the inviolable right of people to equality and self-determination and another example of a civilized resolution of conflicts,” said Nalbandian.

Recall, on Jul. 9, 2011, South Sudan officially declared its independence in agreement with the outcome of a referendum held this January in which 99% voted in favor of independence.
