The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly “deplores the recent increase in tension around Nagorno-Karabakh, and urges that increased political efforts be made within the OSCE to settle the unresolved conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as in Moldova and Georgia,” reads one of the resolutions named in the Belgrade Declaration of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Resolutions Adopted at the 20th Annual Session.
Recall, parliamentarians of OSCE participating states met at an annual session in Belgrade from Jul. 6 to 10 to assess developments and challenges relating to security and cooperation.
The disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan after a bloody war in the 1990s and is populated mainly by ethnic Armenians. Today it exists as a de-facto independent state under an uneasy ceasefire, and OSCE-brokered efforts to resolve its status have so far been unsuccessful.
