Sheikh ul-Islam and Grand Mufti of the Caucasus Haji Allahshükür Hummat Pashazade has acknowledging receipt of the invitation to visit Armenia from His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
As reported by 1news.az, the Grand Mufti of the Caucasus, who is also the chair of the Caucasian Muslims Office, said a concrete decision on this matter is still pending, but in the near future he will meet with the His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, after which point he will announce his position on the visit.
The Russian Orthodox Church is preparing to hold a Nov. 28 meeting of the CIS Inter-religious Council in Yerevan. The Church has again included in the agenda the issue of Haji Allahshükür Pashazade visiting Yerevan.
“It will be the Sheikh’s historic visit to Armenia, just as Karekin’s visit was to Baku,” said Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Roman Silantyev.
“Hopefully, if all goes well, a new stage of conflict resolution will begin. The role of religious diplomacy grows every year, not only in post-Soviet states, but also around the world, the voice of religious leaders is heard more and more,” he said.
