Police are asking for the public’s help tracking down thieves accused of stealing millions in cargo from warehouses across Southern California, ktla.com reports.
Authorities say they believe 51-year-old Ashot Shaumyan is part of a larger cargo theft ring, which to date has stolen $3 million in goods.
The suspects provide false paperwork to freight brokers at shipping and receiving locations in order to commit the crimes.
“These suspects are infiltrating the Internet and stealing other trucking companies’ identities and getting orders and pick-up numbers to come to these facilities… and pick up merchandise,” LAPD Officer Mark Zavala told KTLA.
Police have released surveillance video that they say shows Shaumyan backing his truck up to a storage facility, filing out paperwork using a false license and stealing a truckload of shrimp.
In an other incident, authorities say he got away with $400,000 in lobster.
“We believe he’s part of a ring of other suspects that have been plaguing the surrounding counties, and even other states doing this same type of crime,” Zavala said.
