US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Istanbul.
As reported by Turkish newspaper Sabah, during the joint press conference took place after the meeting, Davutoglu said the parties “discussed the situation in the Caucasus in detail,” noting the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in particular.
According to Davutoglu, they also discussed Armenia-Turkey relations.
The disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan after a bloody war in the 1990s and is populated mainly by ethnic Armenians. Today it exists as a de-facto independent state under an uneasy ceasefire, and OSCE-brokered efforts to resolve its status have so far been unsuccessful.
