Armenia will respond to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s proposals on settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict soon, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian told Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov during a phone conversation on Monday.
Following a meeting of the presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in Kazan on Jun. 24, Lavrov paid a visit to Yerevan and Baku and passed on Medvedev’s message to the leaders of the two countries which stated his proposals regarding the Karabakh peace process.
According to a statement by the Russian foreign ministry. Lavrov and Nalbandian discussed a range of issues during their phone conversation.
As reported earlier today, Azerbaijan’s foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov was to meet with Lavrov in Moscow today. During their meeting, Mammadyarov was to pass on a letter by the Azerbaijani president containing Baku’s official response to Medvedev’s proposals. Azerbaijan’s foreign minister refused to share the details of the letter.
“I won’t detail the contents [of the letter]… this is my president’s letter to Dmitry Anatolyevich; it would be wrong to speak about the details,” he said.
According to Lavrov, Medvedev has not yet read the response letter. Mammadyarov also said that “first we have to wait for the response from the Armenian side.”
