The Aug. 9 incident between Armenian National Congress (HAK) activists and police and developments following were discussed during the meeting between the HAK and ruling coalition delegations in Yerevan on Tuesday. This news was conveyed to reporters by HAK senior representative Levon Zurabyan, following the meeting.
“As a result of the discussion, I can say that we’re confident that the issue of changing Tigran Araqelyan’s precautionary measure will be quickly resolved. Taking this into consideration, we’ve moved on to discussing the issue of the agenda and listening to the coalition’s position. The coalition presented a huge document, which they have not yet completed [presenting] — they presented probably about two-thirds — and that will continue till, of course, the end of the presentation of this document,” he said.
According to the HAK delegation member, making assessments or providing comments on this document is currently not serious.
“My impression is that this document is much better than the document put forth by the Armenian National Congress. Why? Because it better provides the grounds for holding pre-term presidential and parliamentary elections in Armenia,” he said.
Asked whether he’s pleased with the course of the talks, Zurabyan said, “This is a fact. We are trying to maintain a constructive process. If this succeeds, great; if not, we already know what will happen.”
To a reporter’s comment that HAK is no longer considered to be radical opposition, the HAK representative said, “We’ve never been radical opposition; we have been advocating for this country to make radical changes. And that we have always been.”
Zurabyan informed the press that the next meeting of the two camps will take place on Friday at 10 am.
