2 Arrested in Case of Young Conscript Killed in Service

Two men have been arrested — one, a senior officer; the other, a soldier — in the case of Aghasi Abrahamyan, an 18-year-old conscript serving in an army unit near Nagorno-Karabakh who died shortly after being hospitalized with serious injuries late on Friday.

David Karapetyan, press secretary of Armenia’s Defense Minister, conveyed this news to RFE/RL’s Armenian service (Azatutyun) on Wednesday; however, he declined to give names.

The defense ministry spokesperson also stated that on Saturday, Armenian military prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan and chief of the defense ministry’s investigative service Armen Harutyunyan went to the scene of Abrahamyan’s death, a military unit called “Deers,” in order to personally supervise the investigation.
