Armenian Ambassador to Russia Refused Karabakh Foreign Ministry’s Offer?

No replacement has yet been appointed for Georgy Petrosyan, who was released from his position as foreign affairs minister of the de factor Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on Jul. 17.

It’s been nearly two months that one of the deputy foreign ministers — Vasiliy Atajanyan — has been fulfilling the duties of acting foreign minister.

Local daily Haykakan Zhamanak (“Armenian Times”) reports that the Armenian president’s special envoy, former NKR president Arkadi Ghukasyan was initially named among possible candidates for the NKR MFA position. There was also talk of appointing current NKR president Bako Sahakyan’s press spokesperson David Babayan, as well as Vasiliy Atajanyan.

According to the paper, former chair of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) National Assembly and current Armenian Ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan (pictured) was invited to Stepanakert to fulfill the foreign minister position; however, he declined the offer.
