Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan paid a visit to the area on the 84km mark of the Vanadzor-Bagratashen M6 highway where a landslide struck on Sunday.
Accompanied by RA Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan, RA Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan, the PM became acquainted with the situation on the ground and the ongoing search and rescue work.
Recall, out of 12 missing persons, 7 have been found. From the remaining five, 2 are Armenian citizens of Georgia.
Speaking to journalists, Tigran Sargsyan stated that the best geologists in the country will soon begin work in the disaster zone, to find out under what circumstances the landslide took place.
“The extent of the landslide is great: one-third of the mountain adjacent to the road has collapsed. The 3.0 magnitude earthquake that took place a few days ago might be the cause of the landslide. An emergency team has been established and all emergency services, including police, medical service and rescue forces, have begun active search and rescue work,” he said, according to a statement on the Armenian government’s official website.
