“Simply to clarify the point: I did not make this statement,” wrote Amanda Paul, a policy analyst with the Brussels-based European Policy Centre, referring to a recent article published by Aze.az and responding to a request by Epress.am for comments.
As previously reported, Aze.az reported that Paul stated negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict have stalled because the international community does not put pressure on Armenia. According to the Azerbaijan-based news source, Paul reportedly said since the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts have not yet led to any results, Azerbaijan has the right to choose a military solution to the conflict.
Paul, however, refuted the statements:
“I would never make such a blunt statement along these lines. I have said that Azerbaijan is dedicated to resolving the conflict by peaceful means, hence its continuing presence at the table. I guess the translator has misunderstood what I have said. Furthermore, I was actually never asked about Azerbaijan’s intention to solve this conflict militarily,” she wrote in an email.
