The United Nations General Assembly declared Oct. 24, the anniversary of the Charter of the UN, as “UN Day” — a day to highlight the aims and achievements of the international organization.
This year, the UN is celebrating its 66th anniversary. During an event organized by the NGO “Young Conquerers” in Armenia’s National Assembly today, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Dafina Gercheva spoke to reporters about Armenia-UN cooperation.
“I would like to stress the importance of strategic and long-term cooperation between the Armenian government and the UN. And I’m happy to know that we enjoy a high level of trust from the government here. Cooperation over the past 19 years has been admirable. As we know, Armenia joined the UN in March 1992, and the UN office in Armenia was established a few months later. After that, we’ve been working with the government toward overcoming different development challenges,” she said.
Gercheva added that next year will mark the 20th anniversary of UN in Armenia. On this occasion, she congratulated the Armenian people on the exceptional progress it has had during these years, as well as stating that they will mark cooperation between the parties with future benchmark programs.
