Former Russian State Duma MP Ashot Yeghiazaryan, who is deprived of immunity and accused of fraud amounting to more than 1.5 billion RUB, says being included in an international wanted list is illegal.
In his opinion, Russia’s Criminal Investigation Department has no reason to transfer his case to Interpol, and the court’s ruling on absentee arrest “openly contradicts the humane principles of the justice system voiced by the president of Russia, as well as the amendments to Russia’s Criminal Code in relation to economic crime.”
A statement sent by Yeghiazaryan’s press service to Interfax news agency notes that the court ruling was appealed and has not come into legal force, and “in the absence of a lawful court order to arrest Interpol is not authorized to pursue the case.”
