The Hrazdan civic initiative group will hold a working meeting on Nov. 24 connected with mining exploitation in Hrazdan.
Recall, on Nov. 9, Hrazdan residents protested outside the mine, even turning over the containers of samples extracted from the mine as a sign of protest.
Hrazdan civic initiative group member and head of the Armenian National Congress’ Hrazdan branch Mesrop Mesropyan told Epress.am that on Nov. 24, they will be meeting to discuss their next steps.
“Also participating in this meeting will be representatives of the Armenian National Congress’ Hrazdan branch and representatives of the group ‘Save Trchkan‘ [who are campaigning to save Trchkan Waterfall]. At this time mining work is continuing, but a portion of the equipment was gathered after the demonstration,” he said.
Recall, Hrazdan residents are protesting the exploitation of the iron mine in their town. According to environmental activists and independent experts, openpit development of the mine may lead Hrazdan to be deprived of drinking water.
