Armenian TV stations are trying to reproduce ALM, said owner of the now defunct ALM Holding and People’s Party leader Tigran Karapetyan.
Speaking to local daily Hraparak, the former TV station owner said that TV stations are copying ALM “with their singing, their New Year’s Eve programming — but it’s very disorganized.”
“People are calling me and asking do they have anything that they can do of their own initiative? I simply say, the people have no brains, the people believe the government. If they say we’re democratic, how is it that for those democrats the entire TV airwaves are in the hands of [Armenian President Serzh Sargysan’s] brother-in-law [Mikayel Minasyan]. He’s creating a holding. He’s governing everything from the top,” said Karapetyan.
Karapetyan asserts that ALM TV also received an offer from Mikayel Minasyan, which he (Karapetyan) refused.
The People’s Party leader also confirmed his intention to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. “I’m going to run without an alliance — independently, with my party.”
Asked that after being deprived of a campaign platform (i.e. ALM TV), how he is preparing to campaign for the elections, Karapetyan said, “Where all the candidates are, there too I will be. How do the others campaign? We will make use of free and paid advertising [slots].”
