In all the holiday ballyhoo, it seems went unnoticed was a piece of news that a first glance has nothing to do with politics but which, nevertheless, apart from being state officials’ first participation at a public event in the new year, seemed to pursue a completely different campaign goal. Local daily Yerkir is referring to state officials’ participation in the Jan. 5 evening mass at St. Sarkis Cathedral in Yerevan.
“For anyone more or less familiar with protocol, the tripartite unity of the country’s president and prime minister and Yerevan’s mayor might’ve seemed surprising. Undoubtedly, this format cannot represent state protocol; otherwise, at the very least the National Assembly chair and the Constitutional Court chair would be obliged to be here. Thus, we are clearly dealing with another format here. And this cannot mean anything other than the top three spots of the Republican Party of Armenia’s [HHK] election list.
“Thus, it can be surely affirmed that the first three names in the HHK party list will be
1. Serzh Sargsyan
2. Tigran Sargsyan
3. Taron Margaryan.
“As for the fourth person, Archbishop [of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese] Navasard Kjoyan, we hope, won’t have anything to do with the HHK list — though in our country nothing is ruled out. Especially, since the precedent has already been set,” reports Yerkir.
