Armenian National Congress’ 18 Political Parties Agree to Run in Elections as an Alliance: Zurabyan

Recognizing their political responsibility before the people, the 18 political groups that make up the opposition bloc the Armenian National Congress (HAK) have decided to participate in the upcoming electoral race as an alliance, Levon Zurabyan, who coordinates HAK’s day-to-day affairs, said to journalists in the capital today.

“We have to use the regular parliamentary elections and the opportunities created through them for the purpose of forcing early presidential elections. This remains on our agenda,” he said.

Creating an alliance of 18 parties is unprecedented, Zurabyan added, and coming to an agreement on the proportional party list will be quite difficult; however, according to the HAK representative, the first step has been made — that the parties have decided to form an electoral alliance, without discussing the principles of creating the proportional list beforehand.

The Armenian National Congress’ political council will be meeting today and representatives of the 18 parties will present their positions on the proportional list, he added.

Zurabyan also warned that HAK will publish the names of those media outlets that disseminate distorted information about its electoral list.
