In 2011, born in Armenia were 23,160 boys and 20, 287 girls. In Armenia, the names most given to girls are Mane, Milena, Mari, Helen, Nare, Ani, Anna, Anahit, Meri, while the most common names for boys are Narek, Davit, Gor, Hayk and Erik, said head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service Karine Kuyumjyan, speaking to journalists in the capital today.
She mentioned that in the same year, there were 28,030 deaths, of which 14,650 were men.
Armenia’s population rose by 15,417 in 2011, she added.
Despite this growth in population, there were 1,400 less births and 109 more deaths in 2011 than in 2010.
According to Kuyumjyan, there were a 3.1% decrease in live births in the country in 2011, with 853 still births recorded.
On couples getting wed, the National Statistical Service representative said in 2011, there was a 8.6% increase in the number of marriages registered; however, there was also an increase of 6.4% in the number of divorces (last year, 3,188 couples divorced).
