Political prisoner Tigran Araqelyan will be granted amnesty, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak (“Armenian Times”), according to the amnesty bill Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan presented in parliament, which was first to be discussed at a closed meeting of the parliamentary Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs then at the plenary session of the National Assembly. Afterwards, the text of the amnesty bill will be officially published, but the paper claims its correspondent “managed to procure the bill,” which it published in its entirety in today’s issue of the newspaper.
In addition, the paper reports that also granted amnesty will be Karabakh war veteran, Colonel Volodya (Vladimir) Avetisyan, as well as former chief of the Criminal Investigation Department of the RA Police Hovhannes Tamamyan and former head of Armenia’s traffic police Margar Ohanyan.
