Mother of Armenian POW Seeks Intervention from President

Resident of the village of Voskevaz, Gayane Injighulyan has issued an open letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, asking him to help in returning her son Hakob Injighulyan (pictured), a soldier who has been held captive in Azerbaijan for almost 4 months.

In the letter, she writes, in part: "It's not only my son who is a prisoner, but our entire family, peace in our soul, and our faith in the future […] Let me say that my son has health problems and under such conditions those problems will intensify. You too are a parent and can imagine how much a parent's heart will hurt for her child who is being held captive. I know that already both the defense ministry and the entire state wish to do their utmost.

"I am prepared to ransom my own life for my son; unfortunately, that's not possible.

"In the name of Hakob's 80-year-old grandmother, all the members of our family and me personally, I strongly ask you to place under your patronage the solution to this issue.

"Hakob is not only my son, but also a soldier of the Armenian army of his own free will, who entrusted his life to the state. I know for sure that you will not be indifferent to the blood and tears of a captured soldier's mother.

"If possible, please also raise this issue in your upcoming meeting with Azerbaijan's president […] do not leave us alone in our grief. We look forward to your assistance."
