Yazidi Cattlemen Deceived by Armenian Businessman Plan to Fight for their Rights

Businessman Lyova Safaryan deceived 21 Yazidi farmers who raise livestock, posing as National Assembly Chairperson Hovik Abrahamyan's colleague, one of the farmers, Rostam Iboyan, informed Epress.am.

Iboyan said that two years ago, Safaryan purchased milk on loan from him and 20 other Yezidis, saying he is Abrahamyan's colleague and he won't deceive them, but he has not yet paid what he owes. Safaryan owes 200,000 AMD (a little less than $500 USD) to Iboyan alone.

Iboyan said they tried on their own to get the money owed to them, but during the last phone call, Safaryan responded by cursing at them and so the farmers decided to appeal to the Sinjar Yezidi National Union.

Sinjar Yezidi National Union member Boris Tamoyan informed Epress.am that he contacted National Assembly Chair spokesperson Gohar Poghosyan, who informed him that the entrepreneur has no connection to Hovik Abrahamyan and that Safaryan was lying by saying he was Abrahamyan's colleague. According to Tamoyan, since his contacting the parliament, Safaryan is doing everything to refute that he presented himself as Hovik Abrahamyan's colleague.

"We, of course, don't have any documents; we haven't signed anything, but that doesn't mean that we won't fight. Deceived were 20 people from different villages: Mrgashat, Norashen, Deghdzut, Verin Artashat — there are witnesses in every village. We will organize demonstrations, protests; we will go to court. He even told one of the victims, if you're dissatisfied, don't live in our country," said Rostam Iboyan.

Epress.am was unable to reach Lyova Safaryan. He did not respond to our calls.
