A rally followed by a march in defense of Shant Harutyunyan and other political prisoners is set to take place on Jan. 10 at 1 pm from Liberty Square, according to an initiative on Facebook which has garnered the support of Karabakh War veterans and various other groups.
The Facebook initiative recalls that Shant Harutyunyan, who was arrested on Nov. 5, 2013, has been on a hunger strike since Dec. 24, and that Vahe Mkrtchyan and Liparit Petrosyan joined him two days later.
"Their health and lives are in danger; let's take to the streets together and demand an end to all the unlawfulness," reads the notice on the page.
War veteran Susanna Margaryan, in conversation with Epress.am, said the protest also applies to other prisoners, especially Colonel Volodya Avetisyan.
"The demands are the same: freedom to political prisoners and an end to the regime that turns innocent people into criminals. We are all gathering for one purpose," she said.
