Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan at a cabinet meeting today announced a new program for providing civil servants with apartments.
"We worked with you for a long time on providing apartments to civil servants. Today is the start of that program. Currently, 3,500 civil servants have expressed an interest to participate in the program; I propose including this issue in our agenda and presenting the program in detail," he said, adding that buildings having around 1,000 apartments will be built in Yerevan soon.
For civil servants, Sargsyan said, 1 square meter of residential space will cost at most 300,000 AMD (about $731 USD), and the latest the buildings will be constructed is in 30 months. Civil servants will be able to take out a mortgage. Chair of the committee dealing with the new program will be Minister and Chief of RA Government Staff Vache Gabrielyan.
At the end of the meeting, Gabrielyan said about 50% of the civil servants participating in the program have expressed a wish to get an apartment in Arabkir; thus, the first phase of construction will occur in this neighborhood.
