The proposal to establish a commission to study the events of March 1 is a chance for the parliamentary majority to recover, said Armenian National Congress MP Hrant Bagratyan in parliament yesterday.
"If [the perpetrators of] March 1 were punished, Kiev's Maidan might not have happened," he said.
The opposition MP recalled that on March 1, 2008, 10 people were killed (in Yerevan), but to this day no one has been held accountable.
"If the opposition is to blame, let's find these culprits. If not, then let's proceed as we do when there are barricades: We know who our guys are and who are not [our guys]. This is a rare chance for the [parliamentary] majority. Otherwise, there is a watershed and barricades are built between us. No one blames anyone; we say, let's figure it out," he said.
Bagratyan concluded his speech by urging his fellow parliamentary deputies to vote in favor of establishing a March 1 Commission, adding that heroism does not lie in defeating the enemy, but rather, heroic nations defeat themselves.
