Armenia Rushes to Join Russian-led Customs Union

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has created a working group to monitor the process of implementing activities as defined by the "roadmap" of Armenia's joining the Customs Union, said First Deputy Minister of Economy and head of the working groups on technical regulation and services and investments Karine Minasyan at a press conference in the Government of Armenia's press center today.

The Ministry of Economy representative said that the third meeting of this working group was held recently, and the execution of the "road map" was presented. 

"Today we can more clearly say that more than 70 activities have been implemented by the Republic of Armenia," she said, according to the Government of Armenia website. 

According to Minasyan, all the works were implemented within the defined period, and this was noted in the meeting. The deputy minister said that the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission will meet on March 4 in Astana. 

Deputy MInister of Foreign Affairs, head of the working group preparing the protocol for joining the Customs Union Shavarsh Kocharyan, in turn, said they have prepared the agreement of the Republic of Armenia joining the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space.

"After all the work has been completed, when the agreement will be ready, it will be presented to the Republic of Armenia's National Assembly for ratification. After ratification, after it takes effect, the Republic of Armenia will become a member of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space," he said.
