Police Detained, Then Released Drivers Against Paid Parking and Penalties

Artur Sroyan, Armen Mikaelyan, Armen Bilyan, and Artash Misakyan, members of an initiative called "Get out of our pocket" against new paid parking spaces and traffic penalties in Yerevan, who were detained by police earlier today have now been released. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by one of the participants of today's demonstration, Gevorg Safaryan.

"Our friends are with us; administrative proceedings were not applied to them by police. According to our agreement, the demonstration is over," said Safaryan.

Earlier today, members of the initiative began their automobile procession from Yerevan's Brazil Square; however, they were blocked by police on Leningradyan Street, asking drivers to continue their protest on another section of the street. Demonstrators refused to comply, and an altercation followed, resulting in some demonstrators being detained.

Drivers blocked the road, which resulted in a traffic jam on Leningradyan Street, demanding police release the detained demonstrators.
