Resident of the village of Zartonk in Armavir marz (province), ethnic Yazidi Alik Mahmudyan has heart problems but today, July 24, he was drafted into the army. This news was conveyed by Sinjar Yezidi National Union, which was contacted by Mahmudyan's parents, who said that the illness may pose a threat to the young man's life.
According to the parents, initially the military commissariat refused to provide a referral to Alik to undergo the necessary medical checks, but the parents persisted, after which Alik was examined and it was determined that he has health problems.
The organization contacted Military Commissar of the Republic of Armenia, Colonel Henrik Muradyan regarding the issue.
"Commissar Muradyan urged not to discuss issues related to army recruits over the phone but in his office. Organization chair Boris Murazin tried to inform Mr. Muradyan that the conscript has heart problems which may be life-threatening, to which Henrik Muradyan said, if they've drafted the youth, it means he is needed in the army," said Sinjar Yezidi National Union.
The organization appealed to RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, so that with his direct command he can once more confirm whether it is permitted for Alik Mahmudyan to undergo compulsory military service in the presence of a detected illness.
