Former director of Kapan's abattoir, Albert Ohanjanyan, was sentenced to three years and three months imprisonment by the Syunik marz (province) Court of General Jurisdiction. Simultaneously, the court decided to conditionally not apply the sentence, and instead determined a four year probation period, reports “Azatutyun” radio station.
Earlier, during the case, the prosecutor demanded that the defendant, Ohanjanyan, be sentenced to four years imprisonment, and conditionally not apply the sentence, instead determining a five year probation period.
Albert Ohanjanyan, was accused by the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Defense for supplying 82 tons of Indian “Briket” produced buffalo meat, instead of the ordered beef by the ministry. According to the accusation, the Ministry of Defense has been inflicted a large loss of 126,966 million AMD (approximately $310,000).
To recall, in May, 2012, “NO, to Injustice in the Army” initiative sent an open letter to the President, Ministry of Defense, as well as other government officials, calling for an investigation at military bases in regards to supplies of frozen Indian buffalo meat.
In August 2012, the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Defense revealed the violations pertained to the case in their central food storage facility. Arshaluys Paytyan, who dealt with issues relating to the Armenian Armed Forces’ procurement and supplies, was fired.
In September 2012, during Armenian government’s session, the list of import companies importing Buffalo meat was published. Many connected PM Tigran Sargsyan to imports, but he claimed to have nothing to do with the import. A major importer of buffalo meat is Republican Party MP and businessman Samvel Aleksanyan, who owns “Aleks Grig” company.
