Yesterday evening, the Gegharkunik District Court of First Instance, presided by Aghvan Petrosyan, decided to continue the hearings in Hasmik Khachatryan’s criminal case against her husband, while also attaching her civil suit demanding four million drams ($8,800) compensation. Hasmik Khachatryan’s lawyer Tigran Muradyan informed Epress.am about the decision yesterday evening.
The latter noted that they demand 1 million from Khachatryan’s husband, Sargis Hakobyan (pictured seated), as compensation for medical treatment of the physical damages resulting from being subject to beating and 3 million drams as compensation for moral damages.
The decision to attach the civil suit to the criminal case was stated by the court yesterday during the hearing which instead expected to hear the speech of the defendant’s lawyer. The defendant’s side currently does not have a position about the civil suit’s demands. The next hearing is set to December 22.
Recall, that Hakobyan claimed he never beat his wife, and only hit her once before. He also denied Khachatryan’s testimony, which stated that he put out his cigarette on her hand, and he countered claiming the wound was, in fact, a very old scar. According to the victim’s testimony, one day her husband came home after drinking alcohol and asked his wife, if she knew whether her husband was a “a good guy”, and put out his cigarette on her hand.
