Gyumri’s mayor wants to organize festivities for International women’s day, March 8, costing a 3 million dram ($6,300), from the poor city’s budget, writes Asparez daily.
The event is planned to have various sizes of cakes worth 2,100,000 AMD ($4,400), champagne at 400,000 AMD ($840), flowers 200,000 AMD ($420), and greeting cards 300,000 AMD ($630). Discussions regarding the planned costs for the festivities is set to take place on February 6th during a city council session. According to the project, the purchases will be implemented through a negotiation process, without initially publishing the stated cost. The paper’s sources claim that the cakes are to be ordered from the mayor’s personal business, Anusharan; it is, however, unknown where the city will order their flowers, invitations, and champagne.
Department head of finances at Gyumri municipality, Lena Jilavyan, who presented the event’s plan, told the paper that the mayor will give out presents to all the women from all educational, community, state, and non-state institutions. According to Jilavyan, less than 3 million drams was spent on last year’s event, which resulted in a lack of gifts for a number of women and who complained to the municipality about it.
