Prosperous Armenia Party Cancels Rally, Tsarukyan Calls for “Peace”

Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) leader Gagik Tsarukyan believes that all issues need to be solved peacefully, for example, through a political path. The latter was said in a statement by Tsarukyan released by the BHK press office.

The statement says nothing about Tsarukyan’s meeting last night with RA President Serzh Sargsyan. ARF MP Aghvan Vardanyan told mass media about the two opponents' meeting yesterday evening. Tsarukyan noted in his statement that he sees his objective in “being helpful to our people and our country.”

“In order for us to solve Armenia’s existing problems, it is necessary for us not to fight but to calmly, without insulting each other, find all the present gaps, find their solutions, and bring them to life. It is the only possible way to eliminate the current situation, which we have today in our country.

I say with pity that in the past few days, the processes in our country have been going in an entirely different path. This path does not lead to anything good. It is not hard to imagine where the current situation would have led to in a few weeks. In the event of it continuing, no one would gain anything, especially our people. It can not continue like this, we will all blame ourselves later.

Our citizens' life and dignity is valuable for me. No goal can justify the loss of even one innocent life. Neither the authorities, nor the opposition should cross the limits of commonsense. All issues have to be solved peacefully, legally, through a political path,” said the BHK leader’s statement.

Recall, that on February 12 Serzh Sargsyan criticized Gagik Tsarukyan in a speech, while the latter responded the day after noting the necessity for regime change.

In another statement, the BHK political council canceled the February 20th rally they had announced on Monday.

“Yerevan’s municipality, rejecting the rally application note,  is creating illegal barriers for the previously announced urgent rally on February 20th. Considering society’s emotionally tense situation, in order to avoid possible provocations and conflicts, the BHK political council has decided to cancel the February 20th joint rally with the Armenian National Congress and Heritage parties. Through political consultations, we will find all legal avenues in order to come out of the current situation and defend the public’s interests,” said the political council’s statement.
