Three young men were taken into police custody on Wednesday morning from Baghramyan Avenue in downtown Yerevan, where thousands of citizens are staging a round-the-clock sit-in against the hike in electricity tariffs in Armenia. Protester Vahagn Minasyan told reporters the young men had drunk beer and did not heed the calls of demonstrators to leave the protest site.
According to Minasyan, they turned to the police with a request to remove the men who had consumed alcohol from Baghramyan Avenue as they argued with the rest of the protesters, stated they would not leave because “it is our hood,” Minasyan said. He added the protesters had not seen the three at the demonstration site in previous days.
