Lilit Nalbandyan, 26, who fell into a coma after giving birth in May 2013 at the Vanadzor Medical Center and has since been on life support in Yerevan's Erebouni Medical Center, has been declared incapacitated by the Administrative Court of Armenia, and her husband Artak Barseghyan, 32, has been given the right to represent his wife's interests in courts, Nalbandyan's attorney Arayik Papikyan told Epress.am on Wednesday, September 2.
Earlier, Shirakamut village head had annulled the decision on the recognition of Artak Barseghyan as Lilit's guardian. The husband then appealed to the Administrative Court to be re-appointed guardian. The village head, as stated by Barseghyan, was forced to overturn the decision by officials from the Lori Region Governor's Office, where he was also told “they can’t let me receive compensation from the hospital.”
Currently, the husband is trying to receive compensation from the hospital in civil proceedings. If they win the civil case, the party plans to motion to the court to initiate criminal proceedings on improper medical care and treatment provided to Lilit Nalbandyan. Note, Barseghyan's criminal suit has previously been rejected by the court, despite the fact that the results of forensic examination had proved Lilit did not receive proper medical treatment.
Earlier, in an interview with Epress.am Artak Barseghyan told he had lived in Russia for many years and, trusting Armenian doctors, sent his wife to give birth in Vanadzor. However, as a result of the doctors' still unknown error, the husband said, he lost his wife and was deprived of the joy of taking care of his child. The baby, Barseghyan said, is taken care of by his sister, while he cares for his wife and does not lose hope "she will one day miraculously get back on her feet.”
