According to Gegharkunik province first instance court judge Vardan Harutyunyan's annual asset declaration filed with the state Commission on the Ethics of High-Ranking Officials, the judge's financial assets amounted to AMD 8 million (about $16,500), $50 thousand and EUR 20 thousand at the end of 2014, Zhoghovurd newspaper reports.
“Of course, it's clear that the judge has not declared his entire property. However, it's noteworthy that Vardan Harutyunyan, having always worked in one of the most socially disadvantaged provinces and receiving a monthly salary of only 560 thousand drams (about $1200), has managed to accumulate such a sum.
“The judge's wife's assets are all the more remarkable: Armik Harutyunyan has officially declared AMD 15 million (about $31,000), $30 thousand, and EUR 10 thousand in financial assets. And since [Mrs Harutyunyan] has not provided any wage information, it's safe to assume that she 'works' as a housewife. In the case of the judge's wife, 'working' as a housewife is more profitable than any other job,” Zhoghovurd writes.
