Gevorg Safaryan, a member of New Armenia opposition alliance who was arrested on New Year's Eve over a scuffle with law enforcement officers, has ended his hunger strike, opposition Armenian National Congress faction MP Nikol Pashinyan wrote Saturday on his Facebook page, following a visit to Nubarashen jail in Yerevan.
Safaryan had gone into a hunger strike Friday evening, demanding to be transferred to an individual cell, and, as stated by Pashinyan, prison authorities have met his demands. “Safaryan has no complaints over the conditions in his new cell,” the lawmaker wrote.
He added, without elaborating, that Hayk Kyureghyan, who had joined the protest to support Safaryan, has yet to come out of the hunger strike.
