Dozens of people gathered on Tuesday in front of the Yerevan municipality to commemorate Turkish-Armenian journalist, former editor-in-chief of Agos daily Hrant Dink on the ninth anniversary of his death.
Participants of the commemoration ceremony, which was organized by Istanbul-based Armenian activist movement Nor Zartonk, also signed and delivered a petition to the Armenian capital’s municipality, calling on the authorities to name a street in Yerevan after Hrant Dink.
Nor Zartonk spokesperson Nişan Güreh acknowledged during the ceremony that the number of participants was scant this year; however, he said they were hopeful that more people and organizations would join the movement next year, on the 10th anniversary of Dink’s assassination.
Following the petition campaign, the people marched to Yerevan’s Republic Square and held a candlelight vigil in memory of the prominent journalist.
