Hunger-Striking Armenian Female Prisoner Rushed to Intensive Care

Abovyan all-female prison inmate Servenik Gevorgyan, who has been on a hunger strike since February 1, was taken on February 6 into the intensive care unit of Yerevan's Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center, Gevorgyan's lawyer, Gayane Grigoryan, told Epress.am Wednesday.

“[Gevorgyan’s] relatives and I, however, were informed about her transfer on February 7. I have no idea why [prison officials] did not inform us immediately,” she said, stressing that the hospital choice has also caused the family's discontent due to Gevorgyan's previous experience of incomplete treatment here.

“We were categorically opposed to taking her to the same hospital, but [authorities] decided to nevertheless go ahead with their decision,” the lawyer noted. Grigoryan added that she did not know how long the prisoner would remain hospitalized.
